Roofing Contractor in Avon Lake, OH

Living on the south shore of Lake Erie comes with a lot of wind. Avon Lake roofs take more of it than most in Northeast Ohio, and the storm of August 6, 2024 proved it, when a tornado touched down just outside the city and trees came down on homes from Cherry Lane to Lakewood Drive.

ARC Roofing & Home Improvements has replaced and repaired roofs across Cleveland’s west side and Lorain County since 1985. We are family-owned, our crews are our own, and most roofs go on in one day.

A Mix of Lakefront Classics and Newer Streets

Avon Lake’s homes span every decade. There are older houses closer to Lake Road, a steady run of homes from the 1950s through the 1980s, and newer subdivisions like Waterside Crossings and Legacy Pointe. The typical home was built around 1989, which puts a lot of roofs in Avon Lake at or near replacement age right now.

Wind-rated installation – Near the lake, how shingles are fastened matters as much as which shingles you buy. We follow the manufacturer’s high-wind nailing pattern so the warranty holds up.

Older homes near the lake – Older houses often need decking repairs and better attic ventilation along with the new shingles. We check both on every estimate.

Newer subdivisions – For HOA neighborhoods, we work within your association’s approved colors and materials.

August 6, 2024 and the Storms Since

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado that started about a mile east-southeast of Avon Lake on August 6, 2024 and tracked east into Cuyahoga County, snapping trees and tearing shingles off roofs. A tree destroyed a home on Cherry Lane and another went through a roof on Lakewood Drive. Back in 2019, near-record lake levels sent waves six to eight feet above normal into the Avon Lake shoreline. Wind and water off the lake are part of life here, and your roof should be built for it.

Questions We Hear in Avon Lake

Wind is the bigger issue. Strong gusts lift shingle edges, and once the seal breaks, water gets in. Proper nailing, good starter strips and sealed ridges make a big difference.

Look for shingles in the yard, lifted tabs or debris in the gutters. If you see anything, call us for a free inspection. If water is coming in, call any time and we will tarp it.

It depends on the scope. The city lists roofing permits for structural work and replacement. We confirm with the Building Department before we start.
